| Bio: | This journal is an account of an attempt at nonmonogamy between my boyfriend and me. We chose nonmonogamy because we have been together since high school and it looks as if we may be getting married in years to come. We love each other, we are strong, and we communicate well...and our communication has led me to realize that since my boyfriend was the first person I ever slept with and the only person I had ever slept with, I felt like I was missing an important time in my young life where I should be experiencing different places, people, and things. I wasn't willing to give up our great relationship in order to experience that, and Michael was willing to let me experience that while we stayed together...so here we are. I know that there are married couples out there who have been each other's one and only for years and years, and that is a beautiful thing, but I don't think it is for everyone. My boyfriend and I watched as the mother of a good friend of ours put her family through torment as she cheated on and then left their father, saying that she had "married too young and needed to sow her oats." I don't want that to be me, my boyfriend doesn't want that to be me, and so we have decided on nonmonogamy. I don't really go out looking for other men or women, but if an opportunity presents itself, I don't back down just because I "have a boyfriend." The plan is not to develop relationships with other people, but to just give in to temptations for a night and then move on (though, recently, "Wade" has gotten more than one night of fun, will probably get more, and he is most definitely a close friend...Michael is okay with this). I am emotionally monogamous with Michael, just not sexually monogamous. Here goes nothing. *edit 11/10/07* The relationship with Wade has definitely become a fwb relationship, as it is continuing and developing with no definite end in sight. Michael and Wade, at the moment, are plenty for my plate...and discussions with Michael have resulted in the realization that neither of us would want me to take on any other men, even for just one night. (A woman now, might be acceptable...for a night.) So, technically, the relationship is now closed for me and Michael, though Wade is free to do as he pleases with no need to check in with us. Still no name for it besides nonmonogamy in my book, still working for us okay, still enjoying the journey. | |||||
